Introduction
Welcome and thank you for subscribing to The Emergency Medicine Manual online version. The online version contains all the content of the printed version of the manual – and more! In addition to the standard content, our editing team progressively adds and updates content to ensure online version of the manual is as up to date and relevant as possible. A fully electronic index and table of contents also makes finding information quicker and easier than ever.
The manual has been created by humans
The manual is written by humans using expert human judgement.
Artificial intelligence has not been used in any way to create the content of the manual.
Images used in the manual may have been altered slightly from their original to improve clarity and protect patient identify, but not in any way that might change their fundamental appearance.

Optimising your browser
The website is optimised for viewing with, Chrome, Internet Explorer or Opera browsers.
Our experience is that Chrome is the most stable and reliable browser for viewing the manual.
For some users of iOS devices, there appears to be a compatibility issue with OS X and Safari whilst using Format1 – this can usually be resolved by using Chrome as your browser.
Navigating the site
Watch the following video about the basics of navigating the site.
Formats
There are 2 formats which you can access from the ‘Contents” tab on the main menu.
Format 1 works well on most high powered devices and has a responsive format that changes layout according to screen/window size. It is probably the best format for devices with larger screens.
Format 2 is best suited to smaller devices, especially mobiles and tablets. It also has a fully responsive format and navigation and display functions that are better suited to smaller screens. This version also has predictive text search and page bookmarking features.
Customising content
You can partly customise the information displayed depending on your needs.
Instructions on how to do this can be found here.
Browsing
The website content is organised in the same way as the printed version.
Content is divided into sections, each of which contain a number of chapters, each of which contain a number of topics.
At each level the content below can be accessed through the hyperlinks displayed at that level.
The best way to start browsing is to go to the Table of Contents page for each version.
You can then explore each section by following the menu structure as it expands and contracts.
Whilst browsing, navigation buttons allow you to move forward to the next item at the same level.
So if you are looking at a topic and you press the ‘Next’ or ‘→’ button, the next topic will be displayed.
If you are looking at a chapter page, the next chapter will be displayed, and so on.
Versions 1 &3 have a ↑ tab at the bottom of the screen that takes you back to the top of the page.
Depending on the screen size of your device, a panel may appear on the left of the screen (Format 1) displaying the item you have selected from the header bar (Table of Contents, Index, Glossary). To hide this side panel, click the << tab in the middle of the screen (Format 1 ).
Finding things
If you are looking for something in particular, go to the index page by pressing the ‘A-Z’ icon on the top toolbar.
Here you can browse the index by: following the hyperlinks to each index section divided by letter; or by searching the index contents.
The search function searches the entire content of the manual for the item you are looking for and displays a weighted list of matching documents, with better matches shown first. Each list item is a link to a matching document; if the document has a title it will be shown, otherwise only the document’s file name is displayed.
Changed content
Updated text is not highlighted, but information about the pages updated is posted on the website as it occurs.
To stay up to date, the website is dynamic and evolving.
Additional features are regularly added and changes to the navigation structure will also occur from time to time.
For these reasons, bookmarking pages in the site might not always return you to the correct place.
Error reporting
We want the the Emergency Medicine Manual to be as accurate as possible. However despite proof reading the hundreds and thousands of words on the many images, it is inevitable that some errors will occur.
We greatly appreciate your help in identifying any errors you find so we can correct them as soon as possible.
Please use the contact form or email us at venompublishing@bigpond.com or raise a ticket in the support area of the website.
Mobile device viewing
The layout and formatting of the online version has been kept as simple as possible to make it easy to view using a variety of mobile devices. As a result, online images are provided in low resolution format and are not suitable for high quality printing. The browser on your mobile device will usually have a variety of viewing options, so if your default setting does not provide the best view of our content, we suggest you try one of the others. A ‘single column’ or ‘mobile view’ setting will enable easy viewing of the navigation buttons at the top and bottom of the screen and may also remove or shrink and centre images, making viewing easier.
Maintenance
We will inform you by email of any known future downtime of the website.
Website maintenance and content upgrades are planned for periods of likely low website activity, however may occur at any time.
Major file updates usually occur about once a week. Slow system performance or temporary interruption of service for up to half an hour might occur whilst this is in progress. The search function will not operate whilst the search index files are being updated.
