Hyponatraemia updates

The Hyponatraemia page has been extensively updated following the recently released European clinical practice guidelines on the assessment and management of hyponatraemia. There have been changes to the SIAD (previously known as SIADH) segment, definitions of acute vs chronic hyponatraemia and new recommendations for the use of 3% saline – and a whole lot more!

Pacemaker updates

A number of updates have been made to the Pacemakers page including the things you should know about in a patient with a pacemaker and additional information about the actions of pacemaker magnets.

Cardiac contusion

The Chest wall injuries and Mediastinal injuries pages have been revised to emphasise the lack of clinical significance associated with ECG or troponin changes in haemodynamically stable patients and the lack of delayed sequelae associated with the diagnosis of cardiac contusion in this group.

Post partum thrombosis risk

Following a recent study published in the NEJM, the risk of thrombotic events appears to be increased for up to 12 weeks post partum, not for only 6 weeks as previously thought. Various pages including the Thrombophilia page have been updated as a result.

Sarcoidosis

Some information about Löfgren’s syndrome and the diagnostic usefulness of ACE levels in suspected sarcoidosis has been added to the Sarcoidosis page.

Vertigo

The Assessment and management of vertigo page has been extensively revised and a short section on the Alternate cover test for strabismus has been added.
