Pelvic trauma management update

Some new information has been added to the Pelvic Trauma page in the Trauma section regarding pelvic binding and angiography in the management of pelvic fractures.

Emergency resuscitative thoracotomy

Extensive revision and additions to the Emergency Department Thoracotomy page in the Trauma section have been made following the London Trauma Conference Thoracotomy Masterclass.

Criteria for endotracheal extubation

An expanded list of criteria for endotracheal extubation in patients who are being actively treated has been added to the Endotracheal extubation page in the Resuscitation section.

High output cardiac failure

Some tips on how to differentiate high output cardiac failure from low output failure have been added to the Assessment of Cardiac Failure page in the Cardiovascular Disorders section.

Pregnancy related additions

The following topics have been added to the Pregnancy and Labour & delivery pages in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology section: Fertilisation and implantation; Endocrine changes in pregnancy; and Deciding where delivery should take place.

Cardiac arrest additions

Following the recent London Cardiac Arrest Symposium, multiple updates and additions have been made to the following areas:  Sudden cardiac death, Therapeutic hypothermia in cardiac arrest, US in cardiac arrest, Mechanical chest compression devices, Role of PCI post arrest.

Differentiating inferior STEMI from pericarditis

Additional highly sensitive and specific criteria for differentiating inferior STEMI from pericarditis and early repolarisation phenomenon have been added to the ECG in Acute Coronary Syndromes and Pericarditis pages in the Cardiovascular Disorders section.

Paediatric airway obstruction

Some updates have been made in the Bag Mask Ventilation page (that also covers clearing the airway) in the Resuscitation section to better reflect current recommendations.

Shortness of breath

A new page summarising the main causes of shortness of breath has been added to the Respiratory Diseases chapter in the Respiratory Disorders section.

Ultrasound technique for AAA

A new section describing the the US technique used to detect AAA has been added to the Abdominal aortic aneurysm page in the Abdominal emergencies section.

Naloxone in neonatal resuscitation

The suggested use of naloxone in neonatal resuscitation on the Nonatal Resuscitation page in the Resuscitation section has been downgraded in light of the 2010 ILCOR guidelines.

Sucking chest wound

A new short section on sucking chest wounds has been added to the Penetrating chest trauma page in the Trauma section
