For those of you who want to keep up with the latest updates without having to check the site, we have included a RSS feed link on the top of the left hand column.

Yesterday we had problems with the website – the navigation bars disappeared as did most of the update pages and access to the susbscribers accounts. The main Table of contents page has been expanded to include links to some of the additional features available only in the online version of the manual. We have done this as a number of subscribers have been unaware that the online version also contains quizzes, calculators, image galleries and Journal scans. With the addition of the Blood gas quiz Part 1, there are now more than 600 questions in the quiz bank, with at least 15 questions being added to it each month.

The quiz pages have been reorganised to create more direct links to the quizzes to speed up page loading and navigation. There are now 550 quiz questions available with more being added every month.

To facilitate navigation, the Hand injuries page has been subdivided to create Hand anatomy, Digital amputations and Tendon infections and pressure gun injuries pages.

The last year has been a significant one for the online version of the manual. The number of subscribers has doubled and web activity for 2013 has tripled. The Basic life support page has been divided to create a new page called Cardiac arrest. This page deals with the general aspects of cardiac arrest, whilst Basic life support concentrates on BLS delivery.

Submandibular infection (Luwig’s angina) and acute necrotising ulcerative gingivostomatitis (Vincent’s angina) have moved from the Oral conditions page to the Dental emergencies page

The section on contrast enhancement with cranial CT has been moved from the Coma and altered mental state page to the How to read the head CT page.

The upgrade of the server website is now complete and, so far, everything appears to be going well. Please let us know if you notice any faults or anything unusual with the site, especially any dropouts of the search function.

Our membership software has been upgraded over the last few days. You will now notice a new style to the login and membership pages and there is added ability to view your previous subscription payments in .pdf format. Additional features should be available once some of the bugs in the software configuation are resolved.

The Venom Publishing website has just been upgraded. The new website has a theme now very similar to The Emergency Medicine Manual Online site and includes a tour of the features of the online version. A new chapter has been created in the Haematological disorders section called Anti-coagulation and anti-thrombotic therapy. This chapter contains information about all types of anti-coagulant agents and vena caval filters and should make it easier to find information about these treatments .
