Although it may not be obvious, we have been really busy behind the scenes working on a new layout for the contents of the manual. We are pleased to announce that you can now preview the new online version in its draft format.
The new format has a cleaner look, and displays much better on smaller devices. The table of contents is much more accessible, enabling easier navigation. It also has a built in search facility that takes you to the part of the page of interest. All the figures and images are now in the pages you view, not in separate pages, so you can see all the relevant content at the one time.
The new format still has plenty of bugs in it and is currently missing quite a few images, all the audio and video tracks – not to mention plenty of formatting issues. Despite this, we think you might still like to use it if the benefits outlined above outweigh the disadvantages. Some other things you need to know before you try it are:
- As all images are loaded with the page, the amount of data transfer will be higher for pages with images (quite a bit for image rich pages such as ones with lots of ECGs).
- It will not work with some browsers on mobile devices.
- Your browser requires the latest version of Java to run it (see Java.com for a free download)
- You may need to disable Active X control filtering on your browser
- Page loading and searching are a bit slower than the previous version
- There is currently no way out of it back to the main website (for quizzes etc) – so keep it running in a separate browser tab.
We will continue to work on fixing these issues, and eventually this will become the new format, but if you want to see it now (in a new tab) click here.
Please send us your feedback about what you like or don’t like about the new format so we can improve it.
